If your switch was already in a stack in a previous life, here how to fix things up and use it in standalone :

  • Config Terminal
  • switch X renumber Y where X is actual stack number and Y the one you wich it to have.
  • wr
  • reload

There you go !

  1. Power off the unit,
  2. Press “Mode” button and keep it pressed for 2 minutes while putting power back on
  3. To confirm that it’s working, you should get at the prompt “switch:”
  4. Enter the following command “flash_init”
  5. Enter the command “dir flash:” to see flash card content
  6. Rename the file config.text with the following command : “rename flash:config.text flash:config.old”
  7. Launch the IOS with the command “boot”
  8. Press “n” at the question to enter initial configuration wizard
  9. You now have a factory reset switch, if you got good backup of the config and that default config are fine with you simply save running config in the flash with the following command : “copy run flash:config.text”
  10. There you go !

IOS Update for Cisco Catalyst

1. Download your IOS version

2. In enable, type the following command :

– archive download-sw /overwrite tftp://ip of the tftp server/filename.tar

3. If you ran out of space, you can free up some with those :

– dir flash: to get flash content, if there’s a “D” in the permission, it’s because it’s a Drive

– delete /force /recursive folder_to_delete

– delete /force file_to_download
